    I mainly interest in studio portrait photography.

    Lots of people are strobists by that definition - but strobes themselves have become much more affordable.

    And generally, you use speed lights until you can shell out for strobes - so, if anything - thinning numbers is indicative of personal success.

    I don't know I see people with profoto begging for 50$ gigs locally. Short of beating direct sun not seen much a speedlight can't do but each to their own

    i said strobist but i mostly shoot with strobes. I use AD600
